Primary Schools Initiative 2018

Primary Schools Initiative 2018

Monday 12 February 2018

We are delighted to launch the third Bantry Bay Port Company Primary Schools Initiative. This initiative involves selecting a project theme for 5th class students, under the supervision of their class teacher, to gather information relating to Bantry Bay and its environs and displaying it in project form.

The 2018 theme is:

Bantry Bay Port - Commercial, Environment & Leisure – Working in Harmony’

The theme aims to encourage school children to explore how commercial activities work in harmony in the harbour with environmental factors and marine leisure activities.

Projects must contain a high level of visual content and can contain photographs as well as artwork. The creativity of each project will be taken into account when being judged as well as visual impact, originality, content and presentation. Bantry Bay Port Company will provide each participating school with a piece of ply-wood 2ft x 2ft and this must be used for your project.

The initiative is open to 5th class and all projects submitted will go on public display in Bantry until the end of May/June 2018. As space is limited, please do not exceed the 2ft x 2ft size. Any projects that exceed this size cannot be put on display and will be returned due to space restrictions.  Closing date for submissions is Friday 27th April 2018.

All participating classes will be offered a complimentary boat trip and tour of Whiddy Island compliments of Bantry Bay Port Company. These tours will take place in June 2018.

A prize will be given for ‘Best Artwork Piece’ and ‘Best Overall Project’ and each participating class and teacher will receive a Class Certificate of Participation.

If your class is interested in taking part, we would be happy to visit your school to deliver a short presentation to your class on the initiative. Alternatively you can complete and return the registration form.
